My wife quoted this to me one day…”Procrastination is a thief . . . it robs you of time and opportunity.” Hmmm…it’s true, you know.
And, if you’re not careful, procrastination can easily become a habit. One that is difficult to break.
But with some organization and focus you can overcome it and be more productive.
Quick Tips~~~
As when trying to break any habit, have patience and don’t be too hard on yourself. Learn to see all the areas in your life in which you procrastinate.
- Set a goal for yourself to work on a large task. Break it into smaller, more manageable parts and go to work on it. You will soon realize that large tasks are merely a series of smaller ones.
- Tell someone else that you are working to break your habit of procrastinating. It can be helpful if someone else knows what you are doing. They can also offer support.
- Make a plan to help you better manage your time. Learn to schedule time each day to work on larger tasks in order to avoid that last minute rush. You will begin to notice that
when you work this way, you will feel less stress. If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask for it. - As you complete your tasks, learn to reward yourself. You do not have to wait until a large project is completely finished. Treat yourself to something you enjoy as you
complete each step of the project. - Learn to set a time when you will stop working for the day. Do not get in the habit
of working late.
When you learn to stop procrastinating, and get projects done on time, you will notice that you actually get more accomplished and have more time to enjoy life.
